Rentec
Energy Midwest Feedstock Conversion project.
Rentec Energy Midwest Corporation
Located in East Dubuque, this project is
Phase II Development for the conversion of the existing Royster
Clark Nitrogen Facility from natural gas to coal feedstocks.
Phase I development work, funded by the Department of Commerce
and Economic Opportunity, concluded that it would be technically
and economically feasible to convert the existing facility to
use Conoco-Phillips gasification technology and Illinois coal to
produce nitrogen fertilizer and ultra-clean Fischer-Tropsch
diesel fuel. The converted facility would use over one millions
tons of Illinois coal and provide two hundred full time plant
jobs in addition to 150 mining jobs. Project funds will be used
for front end engineering and design, environmental permitting,
and securing contracts for the coal feedstock and off-take of
products, opening a new market for Illinois coal for the
production of fuels and chemicals
Total Project: $11,940,000*
Board Commitment: $2,500,000
DCEO Commitment: $2,500,000
*Substantial
portion of cost shared funds would be expended after Board funds
are spent
Progress Report :Rentec Development Corporation and Royster
Clark Nitrogen Corporation are currently completing contract
negotiations with both Southern Illinois University and the
