Dedicated to Quality Land Reclamation
Mission Statement
As a nationally recognized authority on the reclamation of mined lands, the National Association of State Land
Reclamationists (NASLR) advocates the use of research, innovative technology and professional discourse to foster the
restoration of lands and waters affected by mining related activities.
NASLR recognizes that economically beneficial mining operations and sound land reclamation need not be exclusive of each other. As such, NASLR strives to promote and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between state regulatory authorities and the mining community.
NASLR promotes the formulation of lasting partnerships between state land reclamationists, private mining groups and other interested parties to discuss, encourage, endorse and sponsor programs that will advance the art and science of land reclamation.
NASLR recognizes that geographic and political differences between states can dictate the structure of a state's reclamation program. Therefore, NASLR does not compare state programs, but encourages the exchange of information and expertise in an effort to continually improve the quality and environmental integrity of land reclamation throughout the country.
History
Conceptualized in Illinois in 1972, NASLR's charter meeting was held in Atlanta in 1973. Since that time, NASLR has
held annual conferences nationwide, hosted by various state reclamation agencies. In 1980, NASLR established a national
mined land reclamation award and reclamationist of the year award programs, quarterly newsletter, expanded membership
opportunities, and an Executive Secretary position. In 1994, NASLR created its "Education Grant Program" and awarded
the first grant in 1995. Over 25 states and provinces are or have been members of NASLR.

Membership
There are four categories of membership in NASLR. They are:
- State - A state agency that is responsible for reclamation of mined land.
- Individual - A state employee involved in administering a state's reclamation program when his or her state is a member.
- Associate - Individuals privately employed in the field of reclamation, including state reclamation employees for non-member states.
- Corporate Sponsor - Private corporations and associations involved in land reclamation. Each sponsorship includes two associate memberships.

NASLR Outreach Award
The NASLR Outreach Award is designed to recognize an individual (or work group) who is a positive model for the mining industry. Recipients must be active in promoting a positive image for the mining industry. For more information click here.
Mined Land Reclamation Educational Grant Program
The National Association of State Land Reclamationists (NASLR), a non-profit organization of state officials established for the purpose of promoting and advancing the practice of mined land reclamation, is seeking applicants for its annual educational grant. NASLR intends to award a $1,000 grant to the successful applicant in the fall of each year. Grant funds may be used by the recipient to cover costs associated with education and research expenses.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled as full time junior, senior, or graduate students in an accredited college or university in the United States. Course work, special studies, and/or research in the area of mined land reclamation or a closely related field is also required.
Applications must be received no later than August 15 of each year, and will be evaluated on the basis of college grades, quality and relevance of course work or research, a proposed special project or research budget (if applicable), information obtained from references, and other related considerations. Other factors being equal, preference will be given to applicants from NASLR member states or those enrolled in schools located in NASLR member states.
The successful applicant may be requested to present an oral report on research activities at the annual meeting of NASLR.
